The Maldives has used Covid-19 to their advantage, to gain profit and traction through the influencer community. While putting themselves at risk for covid, the island decided to set up specific guidelines for their resorts to increase travel. To do this, travelers must receive a negative covid test upon arrival and are then free to walk around the island without a mask. Because of the essential pod the island has created, the staff does not have to wear masks. The expensive resort has become eye catching to influencers because they do not have to wear a mask around the entire island. While the resort properties are up and running during quarantine, the capital city of Maldives is under strict regulations with curfew and no holiday explorations. Many Maldives’ residents have projected their concerns due to the fact that many tourists do not even realize there are more than resort properties on the island.
