Covid-19: Effect On Hawaii
- This first video is a news broadcaster talking to our governor, David Ige about the impacts on tourism and travel. I like how you can see the severity of how Hawaii was affected by this pandemic. “We went from having the lowest unemployment rate in the country to having the highest unemployment in the country.” Tourism was everything to Hawaii and we were greatly affected by this pandemic.
Hawaii’s COVID-19 shutdown hits tourism hard
- This second video is a short video on TikTok showing how empty the beaches are because of the restrictions imposed by Covid 19. This gives a really great visual representation of how different things are now that we don’t have tourists. In a way it’s beautiful and scary and the same time.
- This next youtube video actually expands on the positive change from this COVID-19 outbreak. Since there was little to no human interaction happening at the beaches, our reefs and wildlife had time to heal and regain strength. Even personally when I would practice gathering rights I could see how abundant the ocean was with life.
- This next piece is an article that highlights how and why the Ocean is recovering because of this pandemic. It, more importantly, states that we must not only let it heal now but must think of ways we can help our oceans to heal even when the state reopens. This beach known as kahalu’u, is planning on ways to carry out tourism when the state fully reopens.
