The Shisa by Jadalee Takara of Honolulu, Hawai'i

The Shisa

Jadalee Takara

Honolulu, HI, USA

"The Shisa are symbolic figures that take out the bad spirits and keep in good fortune. I chose to focus on the Shisa because, in my house, we have Shisa figurines in almost every room, and it is a really important symbol from my heritage. I am glad to have such a symbol around my house because it keeps my Okinawan culture and its beliefs alive"
