Mini Curation

  • Music is a form of media that allows Hawaiians to tell stories of hula, nature, gods and goddesses, love, monarchy, and culture

https://youtu.be/WbMX_LoT_YA (A song that represents what it means to be a proud Hawiian)

A song (music) called Kū Haʻaheo is a song that tells the meaning of being strong and proud Hawaiians standing up for your rights against foreigners, claiming the land that rightfully belongs to Hawaiians.
I believe that this song is a great representation of the situation with the TMT up on Mauna Kea. The “foreigners” or the people who are for TMT, want to build a Thirty Meter Telescope on top of one of Hawaii's most sacred landmarks that there is. Mauna Kea is what connects the earth or Papahanaumoku to the sky, Wakea. Mauna Kea also holds a watershed that could supply the people of Hawaii with fresh water for years on years if the waters go bad. The Hawaiians and allies to the Hawaiians are furious with these people trying to destroy a very significant landmark of the Hawaiian culture. This song is about the proud Hawaiians who will not back down and will stand up for their rights.

  • Video is a form of media that allows Hawaiians to broadcast their true lives and the many experiences and hardships that they went through

https://youtu.be/rdI90YECOh0 (A video/movie that shows real life in Hawaii)

I think videos are the most effective way of showing others about important concepts because visual learning is easy. It is important to broadcast the true lives and experiences of Hawaiians or locals to Hawaii because there are many close minded and uninformed people that do not know the truth of Hawaii and its culture. There are many stereotypes of Hawaiians/locals to hawaii like everyone lives in grass huts, everyone knows how to surf, everyone rides dolphins to places, or some other stereotypes like hawaiians are dumb. I have heard so many things of Hawiians being uneducated and I disagree with that, I feel like a video on the true lives of the locals in Hawaii will definitely clarify and represent the authentic Hawaiian lifestyle. The hopeful and possible outcome of this is to inform others who are interested in learning about this type of lifestyle know that Hawaiians too have struggles, just like any other ethnicity around the world. They also experience good things as well. It will show the values of the Hawaiian culture and its people. It will allow the viewers to view life through the eyes of the actual person who lives this way, which is good because it allows sympathy, empathy, and to feel like you are experiencing the actual situations and experiences.

  • Art is a form of media that hawaiians used to create masterpieces that hold value and can be used to worship upon
